The site is basically more of a cooperative free writing site vs a rp site. You'll notice the only character sheets that are usually up aren't really required and are usually used for authors to share their creative idea of what their character looks like vs how powerful or how many powers they have.
I wanted a site that was less about power and more about story and the enjoyment of telling stories with people. Now granted what ever you do you should probably have some general knowledge of what world you choose to have as a setting but... eh... that's between you and the people you write with.
So this forum is an rp forum in a sort of cooperative story writing format. There aren't different boards indicating different cities and such to post in. You pretty much create a thread, invite who ya want... and start free writing. If you find a thread you think you might want to join. Ya ask to join it. Just make sure to write yourself in logically and if you choose to dip out of the rp write yourself out logically. As for any potential issues that may arise... again... between you and the folks you write with.
Some basic etiquette is the normal.... don't god mod, take control of another's character, auto hit... yada yada that most forum rpers know by this day and age but even then... You'll come to see that folks that have known each other for a long time will take liberties with each other in order to move the story forward. So it is pretty much... get to know each other and figure out each other's quirks.
